Back: Woody, Rob Wilson, Dave Scott, Jon Vernon, Ed Banham, Chris Jones, Jack Pope, Steve Skillern, Phil Smith, Kev Collins, Mono Hamilton, Steve Sedgwick, Lee Monaghan. Front: Scott Robinson, Kev Hoyle, Craig Harrison, Liam McHale, David Shapland, Jamie Francis, Dan Hyde. Bedquilts, 31st August 2014.

Finding themselves once more in the Combination's second tier, Horsforth made an indifferent start to the campaign, but recovered splendidly around the turn of the year, so much so that we ended up missing out on the title by a single point.

With Phil Smith not available as hitherto, Jamie Francis took over as regular club captain. Jack Pope began and ended the season in goal, with Chris Buttery recalled from retirement for a spell and Jonathan Postle continuing to improve, claiming the jersey during the vital mid-season games. In general, it was three at the back. Tom Wilson was the most consistent member of the defence, with Phil Smith, Dave Howarth, Ed Banham and Dave Shapland among his most regular accomplices, and Chris Jones and Jonathan Vernon always ready to answer the call. The club's increasingly formidable midfield boasted another new recruit in Kev Hoyle, with Rob Wilson, Craig Harrison, Jamie Francis and Steve Skillern all further enhancing their reputations. Jamie McCafferty made some key contributions during the winter months, while Mike Popplewell was another newcomer who never let the side down in the various roles he was asked to play. Dave Howarth was of course still hugely influential in midfield too, when he could be spared from defensive duties. The attack was led by Dave Scott, his 22 goals instrumental in much of the success that came our way. Jamie Francis moved up from midfield to play alongside him on several occasions, and there were a few moments of magic from Simon Parker, but Dave's partnership with rookie striker Liam McHale coincided with the side's late-season surge in form.

Following mediocre performances in the first three league games, the season might have appeared on the brink of collapse when three defeats in consecutive cup games ended any interest we might have had in cup glory - but possibly proved to be a blessing in disguise? Dave Scott began hitting the back of the net regularly from October, and results looked up accordingly. After losing narrowly to eventual champions Barwick in December, the run-in featured eight games without defeat, and only one of those a draw, including siginficant wins against the other title contenders. In all honesty, we were always playing catch-up against Barwick though, and their coronation as champions was never in much doubt, even though the narrowness of their triumph will have surprised many.

After a season like that, there could only be one outcome ... promotion to the Jubilee Premier Division, the top level of Sunday football in Leeds, beckoned.
